Overheard at the Omaha Community Theater yesterday

"I don't like having childless adult women in my classes because they are too selfish. Women are wired to be nurturers and they can't achieve that level without having children"

OK, a paraphrase but you get the idea. And I had to sit next to that woman and stew through the entire play. I couldn't believe she said it at all but it's even more surprising that she would say it while sitting next to me. Clearly, I was there by myself. Did she even wonder if I am childless or just selfish for leaving my kid at home.

Oh, and this was said after she said that Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love) and Oprah are both selfish and self-indulgent because they don't have children.

Way to be supportive of other women's choices, sweetie.

AARGH!!!

I think she's just jealous that not all women spend their days cleaning up things they JUST FREAKING cleaned 2 minutes ago, and then fighting to get their kids dressed, and in the car, and then feeling guilty because they yelled at them, and then worrying that they're not making the best choice for schooling, and HOW CAN THEY SUCCEED IN LIFE IF THEY DON'T GO TO THE RIGHT KINDERGARTEN?

Or, um, maybe that's just me.... ;-)

I completely support your choice, Manya! There have to be SOME people in this world who get to have nice homes and go on fun vacations every year. Might as well be you!

It does seem like Suzanne might need a night away from the kids. :-)

And the funny thing is that I haven't made the decision not to have kids. I just don't have them right now. I don't judge her...why does she need to judge me? Stinky lady.
