It is only now dawning on many Nebraska democrats that the primaries next week mean nothing. Remember the oh-so-exciting caucus we had a few months ago? There are pictures posted on my blog from before I became lazy about taking pictures.
The democratic caucus was on a very cold Saturday. Yes, it was exciting and yes, it was well attended but many people (myself included) did not realize that this was the day that Nebraska chose it's democratic nominee. The state went for Obama and probably still would but I was so excited to finally vote in a primary that mattered. We vote so late on the west coast that it never matters and the candidates never woo us. I want someone to woo me!
Instead, on Tuesday, my vote won't matter because Nebraska is already going for Obama. There's other stuff to vote for but I'm still ignorant about Nebraska/Omaha politics. A woman called the library yesterday about this issue and was very upset. She's elderly and couldn't get to the caucus and wants to vote to count. I feel her pain. I'm pretty disappointed myself.
Perhaps we'll be important in the general election.

Here in Oregon we are really being courted by the candidates. Both Obama and Clinton were here over the weekend plus Bill is here today or maybe tomorrow. My gosh even McCain is in the state. Even though it appears to be over remember Yogi Barra's words "it ain't over till it's over"
72,000 people in Waterfront Park to see Obama (and the Decemberists) out in May sunshine. Candidates have definitely tried to romance the West Coast this year!
